Marc Girardelli

Marc is a legendary figure in alpine skiing, renowned for his extraordinary achievements and pioneering spirit. Born in Austria, he represented Luxembourg throughout his athletic career. Over the course of nearly two decades, he became one of the sport's true all-time greats.
Marc won the overall World Cup five times, (in 1985, 1986, 1989, 1991, and 1993), and booked 10 single discipline World Cup victories. He achieved 46 World Cup race victories across all five alpine disciplines – slalom, giant slalom, super-G, downhill, and combined – showcasing his unparalleled versatility and earning him a position amongst the top three World Cup athletes of all times. At the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, he won four gold and four silver medals, making him the second most successful alpine ski racer in FIS World Cup history. At the 1992 Olympic Winter Games in Albertville, he earned two silver medals in the Super-G and Giant Slalom races, rounding off his biggest athletic accolades.
Since retiring in 1997, Marc has built a successful entrepreneurial career, staying closely connected to winter sports. He promotes ski tourism, advises ski resorts, and develops innovative winter sports equipment. As a sought-after speaker, Marc shares insights on leadership, perseverance, and his remarkable journey.

We have made some changes to the Pentathlon over the past couple of years, and we will continue to look for ways to make the event even more attractive to even more pentathletes. Those of you who come to Grindelwald to participate will see and experience the hopefully welcome adjustments to the programme.
